It all started with adventure. That’s how I became a better photographer, by documenting my trips and the beautiful people along the way. People matter, so I like telling their story through my photos.
My style is very natural, and often adventure based. That’s why my Langly bag is clutch, it has everything I need for any and everyday. Whether I’m doing a shoot or just exploring, I’m always good to go. I’m all about natural light and natural moments. For that reason, my kit is pretty simple as well. My bag also has a slot for my MacBook Pro, and even then it still travels pretty light.
My go to is my Canon 5D Mkii with the Canon 50mm f/1.4 on it. I’m self taught, and initially learned on a 50 alone. It’s such a great portrait lens, and I prefer it over an 85mm because I like to shoot more intimately with a person. I use the Canon 50mm f/1.4 when I want a portrait that is very true to the human eye, and feels totally natural.
I’m completely in love with my Canon 24mm f/1.4 L II too, it’s so great for that slightly larger than life feel, without feeling too exaggerated or unnatural. When shooting a portrait on the Canon 24mm f/1.4 L II, you just want to stay more or less center focused on your subject so they don’t catch the distortion towards the edges of the frame. It’s sweet because you can get more context of where your subject is and what they’re up to. I originally got it when I was shooting on Warped Tour for the summer because I knew I needed something a little wider for when I was crammed between the barrier and the stage.
For me, those two lenses complement each other perfectly. I’m a fan of shooting primes because it teaches you to know what you want. You have to work your frame more, and you become more interactive with your subject. Of course, the sharpness in primes is just so much more ideal as well. I have a wireless remote for when I get inspired to shoot self-portraits. I got it because it has a killer transmission distance of around 100 meters, and it’s super affordable. I also like to snap a few moments with the polaroid during a shoot because it’s fun, instant, and just so nostalgic. I’m completely content with my kit, and don’t plan on adding anything else to it.
