Hello. I’m Dustin, a Florida based wedding photographer. Each wedding is a story which I look to authentically document through emotional imagery.
I have a few dresser draws full of old camera bodies and lenses and finally pretty confident in my current kit under any shooting situation. My father was a Nikon shooter so ever since photography 101 my senior year of undergrad that has been the platform I have used. The Nikon D4s is a tank and consistently delivers under any condition. The Nikon D800 is a beautiful complement for shooting with two cameras during the ceremony as well as scenes with a higher dynamic range.
I generally shoot alone so being able to comfortably carry all my gear is important and why I use the Pelican 1510 (not pictured).
The Think Tank Photo Retrospective Lens Changer 3 was the first shoulder bag I purchased and although I have tried to replace with other fashion forward bags I continue to come back to this workhorse. The wider compartments make is so easy to grab and go.
The Holdfast Money Maker is a given if you shoot with two cameras. Make sure to snag the Portrait Slider which will help shooting in portrait position on the left body.
The iPhone is what I use for timelines and other important information during the day.
The Think Tank Pocket Rocket allows me to keep cards organized and on my person.
I shoot to dual slots using SanDisc Extreme CF/SD and Sony XQD cards which I have over 500gigs allowing delivery of final products before formatting. The MacBook Pro is used to dump to a Lacie Rugged 1TB hard drive for on location backup. For processing, I primarily use Adobe Lightroom and Alien Skin Exposure 5.
Audio has been something I have dabbled in. It is a great way to stretch creativity and add another element to how the client views their photographs. Most of the time I plug the Zoom H4n into a speaker or soundboard but when time allows or there is no audio setup I place a Sennheiser Lavalier Mic on the groom or officiant.
Mostly a prime shooter, the Nikon 35mm f/1.4 is my go to lens and the Nikon 58mm f/1.4 something I picked up a few months ago and find it to be a better complement to the 35mm than the 50mm.
The Nikon 28mm f/1.8 is lightweight, cheap, and a great lens for setting the scene or landscape portraits. The Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VRII is what I use to get in tight during the ceremony.
During the reception I use a Nikon SB-910 on camera and Nikon SB-900 with a grid off. The PocketWizard Flex TT5 and PocketWizard Mini TT1 give full manual control from the mounted flash making it easy to change power or turn off the off camera flash.
