If you would ask me what I love most about weddings, I’d say it’s the people. It’s been almost 10 years since I started shooting photos and in this time I have met amazing people—beautiful couples with whom I share a special day.
I guess this is one of the perks of being a wedding photographer: meeting people from all over the world, have fun with them doing my work and let their day last forever through my photos.
Someone would say it is just a work, but not for me: I truly love what I do, I’m never bored about shooting: every time there are different couples, a new location, an unknown place to discover that sharpens my creativity and challenges me to improve and do something new.
I love to experiment with different techniques and find original points of view. Sometimes I wake up with an idea on my mind and write it down on a little notebook that I always have with me, waiting for the perfect situation to realize it.
For me it is like drawing a little story in every photo and putting in each of them a part of myself like a little invisible signature. Probably that is why most of my photos are funny and spontaneous—that is me!
Art is a part of my life: I love every form of it, from the Italian or Dutch seventeenth-century paintings whose use of light fascinates me, to the comics that I read so much!
I love Tuscan landscapes. I live in a small town surrounded by hills that have stunning colors in every season. Whenever I can I take my Vespa or my vintage Mini and make a tour with my wife.
Inside my bag:
Canon 5D Mark III
: this is my main camera. I usually use it with Sigma Art 50mm f/1.4 almost all day long.
Canon 6D
: my second camera to use with Canon 24mm f/1.4 L or Canon 135mm f/2 L. I love its reactivity with low lights, e.g. during dancing.
Sigma Art 50mm f/1.4
: this is my main lens. I shoot about 70% of a wedding with it.
Canon 24mm f/1.4 L
: it is the only wide-angle lens I have. It is used above all during dancing and for some shots in “narrow” situations.
Canon 135mm f/2 L
: that is the lens I prefer, fast, defined and with a faithful colorimetric rendering. I use it above all for the couple session and outside.
Canon 85mm f/1.8
: it was one of the last lenses that I bought. Between 50mm and 135mm there was too much difference and I needed something that he was “in the middle”. This lens has an excellent quality, despite the quite cheap price.
Samyang 500mm f/6.3
: I use this lens very rarely, usually for some creative portraits or to create an effect of “flattening” of the field of view.
2x Canon speedlite 600ex-rt
: I always prefer shooting with natural light and I rarely shoot with flash. I like to use them in creative situations and often during dancing.
Yongnuo YN-E3-RT
speedlite transmitter: this is a good alternative to the original Canon transmitter and it allows me to set the Canon speedlite 600ex-rt immediately.
Black Hold double strap (honey color): during these years I’ve tried different ways to keep my cameras, but this one is definitely the most practical and the coolest ever!
