Family & Maternity | Last Updated: February 18, 2021

My name is Felicia Saunders and I specialize in Maternity and Newborn portraiture. I have been in business for 12 years, the last three I’ve operated out of my Henderson studio. My love for photography goes way back to being a child and playing “photography studio” with my siblings.

I would tack a blanket to the wall and go through rolls and rolls of film photographing my siblings. It really flourished when I was 13 and received my first camera for Christmas.

I am a Canon girl ;)! I absolutely love my Canon gear and have used it for as long as I can remember for my own business. I’ve dabbled in some others but always find myself coming back to my Canon.

I love how reliable my Canon cameras and lenses have always been. I also use Paul C. Buff lighting gear. I use Alienbees and DigiBees in studio and on location.

One of my favorite pieces of gear from Paul C. Buff is my Vagabond Mini battery pack, it has come in handy for so many things involving photography and not – it is a must-have in my opinion.

I really don’t use a lot of gear when I photograph, generally, I stick to one light with a big 86in PLM modifier.

Cameras

My main go-to camera these days is my Canon EOS-R Mirrorless (reviewed here). I originally purchased it because it was lighter in weight than my Canon 5D Mark III.

My tried and true, never let me down buddy is my Canon 5D Mark III.  I have had this camera for a number of years and it is just as reliable as day one. Though I don’t use her as much these days, she is never far from reach in my bag.

Lenses

I adore my Canon 24-70mm f/2.8. It is the perfect fit for everything I photograph. I use it for every session on location and in studio.

I always keep my Canon 24-105mm f/4.0 lens handy in case of an emergency too.  It is a great quality glass and I am proud to carry it in my bag!

Lights/Triggers

My default lighting is my DigiBee 800s with my CyberSync transmitter and receivers!

When I am photographing something more for leisure, like lightning, I like to use my Miops trigger, but that is on a rare occasion. Even so, it is always nice to have something trustworthy tucked in my bag.

Bags/Straps

I use Lowepro ProTactic 350 AW to transport my gear around. It is a great bag, holds both of my cameras, two of my lenses, and all my extras.

Tripods

I have had a very reliable Manfroto tripod for well over 8 years. It has been perfect every time I needed it.

Hardware & Software

My go-to is Adobe Photoshop for editing and retouching. I have honestly never used Adobe Lightroom for anything; maybe I should dabble?

I choose to hand-edit 99% of the time. I have several self-created actions but mostly don’t use them. I will at times use Greater than Gatsby’s for some mild retouching, I especially love their “catchlight enhancer” to make eye colors pop.

Misc.

I couldn’t get by without my ExpoDisc.  I use it for every session for the most accurate white balance I can get! If for some reason I don’t have it handy, I love using my Xrite Color Checker Passport.

At any given time you will find a lollipop or some other sort of bribery in my bag for Newborn’s older siblings.

I live by a quote I saw many years ago that I, at times, have to remind myself of when things seem scary in business. “If your dreams don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough” -Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

I think if you put your mind to it you can do it, and don’t stop until you do.  Chase that dream and work hard for it.
