Felix Hernandez

Commercial | Last Updated: February 3, 2021

Hi everyone! My name is Felix Hernandez and I’m a commercial photographer, designer and digital artist born in Mexico City, but currently living in Cancun. I produce creative concepts and images for different brands, advertising agencies and personal projects as well.

Working in my studio or on location, I mix photography, crafts and digital art to accomplish unique images and bring my ideas and dreams to life.

This has brought the attention of the creative community and invitations to give conferences and workshops, as well commercial projects around the world; Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Dubai, China, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Costa Rica, Denmark, New York, Chicago, UK, Italy, Mexico, to name a few.

My work has been published in different photography magazines like: Retouched Magazine, DOCMA, Digital Camera, Digital SLR Photography, Digital Photo and Good Light Magazine among others and posted in web sites like: Fstoppers, Petapixel, 500px, DIY Photography, Retouching Academy, Canon, Adobe Photoshop, Audi Deutschland, Daily Mail, El Pais and Bored Panda, etc.

(See more great photography magazines here.)

My only goal is to create and make a living doing what I love… again; CREATE!

About My gear:

When talking just about photography and the post-production, the gear I use is the following:

Canon 5D Mark IV

It’s a full frame camera which has everything I need.

Canon 24mm TS f/3.5 (Tilt & Shift) lens

While I’m not a landscape or architectural photographer, this lens has just the right characteristic for the kind of work I do, if used properly. You can achieve more or less depth of field irrespective of the f-stop you are using. It doesn’t distort the vertical lines. It has a short focus distance, etc…

All these characteristics allow me to get really close to my scale models, without distortions, having a wide angle view and great depth of field.

Laowa 24mm f/1.4 Macro Probe Lens

This is a very specialized lens that I use mostly for video. It’s relatively new, so in the upcoming months, you will see more content created with this lens. This lens is really long and narrow so you can get to places which other lenses can’t. It’s also a macro lens but with the characteristics of a wide-angle lens, which gives you more depth of field and a unique angle view in the macro world photography.

Canon 24-105mm f/4

This is my workhorse lens for stills and videos. Normally when I’m not working with miniatures.

Manfrotto 055XPRO3 Tripod with Ball head

So good and so old it’s no longer available. It’s a little bit heavy, but great if you want steady shots.

Lowepro…?
It’s my camera bag, and it’s so old I don’t even remember the model… But that’s good!. It has lasted so long and I have no complaints.

Studio Strobes:

I have worked with different brands, but mostly with my old Bowens Gemini GM500R and Einstein from Paul C Buff.

Studio Video Lights:

I recently start working with the Aputure Light Storm 120d II and they are great!

Triggers:

PocketWizard Plus II and Plus III Transceivers
These connect almost any camera to any strobes.

Big Stopper ND 10 stop Lee Filter and a ND 1.2 stop graduated soft Lee Filter

I use these filters occasionally when I have to do long exposure shots using natural day light.

iMac 27 inch

I have always worked with Macs. I appreciate the design of “things” and Macs are beautiful good-looking machines and simple to use.

Wacom Cintiq 24HD Interactive display

There is a before and after in my craft and workflow since I started using the Cintiq. I have so much control over the details. It feels natural working directly on the screen and it speeds up your process a lot!
