Interview with Ross Harvey

There are many photographers out there who are quite insular, preferring to keep their techniques to themselves and hide how they have become successful. Then there are photographers like Ross Harvey, who, despite his stature as the Best Wedding Photographer in England 2013, is completely open about everything he does and eager to teach others. These are the kind of photographer who are great for the Shotkit community!

During this interview with Ross, I quizzed him in detail on his choice of gear, including why he chooses to shoot Nikon but also carry one Canon camera and a certain lens to shoot just 1% of his weddings; his use of film with the Leica M3; why he loves the Nikon D3s for wedding photography; his favourite camera for street photography, and several other rather geeky questions…

Then we delve into Ross’ post production techniques, including one sharpening tip that helps Ross achieve his signature, razor sharp look. Coming from a graphic design background, it’s clear that Ross knows a lot about post production, and I found the interview on this topic very interesting indeed.

Ross is at once very technical, but also philosophical in his approach to what he does. Even if you’re not interested in camera gear or photography, I urge you to watch until the end of the interview, where Ross delivers a truly inspirational message.
