Fujifilm’s New XF 30mm Macro Lens Offers Awesome Close Focus
Shortly after announcing its impressive new X-T5 camera with 40.2MP BSI X-Trans CMOS Sensor Fujifilm has already put out a new macro lens with remarkable focus specs.
The XF 30mm f/2.8 Macro lens features a 1:1 magnification ratio and a focusing distance that’s wonderfully close at just 3.94 inches, or 10 cm from a subject to the sensor inside the camera behind the lens.
Another crucial spec of the new lens is a 35mm full-frame equivalent focal length of 46mm that’s extremely close to the field of view of human eyesight according to Fujifilm.
Fujifilm also claims that the lens is a good choice for portrait and wedding photography, calling it “ideal” for these uses in addition to its macro uses.
The XF 30mm f/2.8 Macro lens is built out of 11 elements in 9 groups and includes 2 aspherical elements along with two extra-low dispersion elements for controlling chromatic and spherical aberration along with field curvature.
Fujifilm has also made the new device to be resistant to moisture, dust, humidity and water penetration. The optic has been sealed in nine different locations and can continue working even in temperatures as low as -10 degrees Celsius (14 Fahrenheit).
Other features of this 30mm f/2.8 Macro include an Inner Focus system that has its lens group create accurate focus in just 0.02 seconds thanks to a linear motor powering the whole apparatus.
Despite this, the focusing system of the lens is both quiet and very smooth according to Fujifilm.
The lens maker even claims that the advanced resolution of this lens’s linear motor is good enough to ensure precise focusing even during the most shallow depth-of-field macros shots.
Fujifilm’s XF 30mm f/2.8 Macro lens is quite small too. It measures out at just 2,74 inches, or 6.95 cm, and has a filter thread size of just 43mm. It weighs no more than 6.88 ounces or 195g.
The above-mentioned focus-to-sensor distance of 3.94 inches in this lens, coupled with its short body length, means that this lens can have an object sitting just over an inch away from its front glass element and still focus on it just fine.
This is worth keeping in mind for serious macro shooting fans. It makes the XF 30mm f/2.8 Macro one of the closer-focusing lenses on the market, ideal even for nearly microscopic photography.
As Victor Ha, VP of Electronic Imaging and Optical Devices at Fuji explains, “The ability to create dynamic, true 1:1 macro photography means photographers can enjoy tabletop photography, close-up commercial detail, and microscopic wildlife, among other genres,”
He also explains that the compact design and weather-durability of this lens together make it especially ideal for X-Series cameras.
Fujifilm’s XF 30mm f/2.8 Macro lens will apparently start shipping close to the end of November but it’s available now for preorder at $599.95.
