Specs for the Upcoming Canon EOS R100 Have Been Leaked

Canon’s upcoming entry-level EOS R100 mirrorless camera has gotten its specs leaked online and what we’re seeing points towards a device that’s strongly aimed at video creators and vloggers.

The specs of the EOS R100 appeared online and point to an APS-C model that will offer an advanced collection of features for content creation and robust photography as well. In other words, the R100 will be more like the Nikon Z30 and Sony’s A6000 camera family despite having a body similar to that of the EOS M6 Mark II from Canon.

In any case, according to what the leaks reported by the website Canon Rumors indicate, the essential specs of the R100 will include the following:

  • A 24.2MP APS-C sensor
  • 12fps mechanical shooting capacity
  • Digic X processor
  • Video recording at 4K 30p
  • 1.04 million-dot Vari-angle Touchscreen technology
  • A Dual Pixel AF II system

The camera will also lack an EVF despite being a mirrorless model. In other words, this will be a very compact device similar to some of Sony’s ultra-compact EVF-free camera models.

All of this doesn’t entirely suggest a vlogger-type camera but it does strongly hint at it: Photographers would definitely prefer an EVF for quick photo composition, while video creators can often be content with using a rear screen, especially if it’s of the articulating kind as the specs above claim.

On the other hand, it is also possible that the ESO R100 gets released alongside a range of accessory features that make it work well for photography. One of these might be a hot shoe-attachable EVF like Canon’s existing EVF-DC2.

So far this is all that anyone on the web knows. We’ll have to wait and see what sort of pricing and concrete specs details emerge soon, along with an actual release date.

It’s also worth mentioning here that the leaked specs and form factor of this EOS R100 design are somewhat similar to those of Sony’s recently announced FX30 cinema camera.

This pending release is much more premium-oriented in its video creation specs and features, but it’s also a camera that focuses strongly on vloggers and content creators who want a compact mirrorless shooting device for their work.
