Specs Leaked for the upcoming Canon EOS R8

As we reported recently, it’s highly likely that Canon’s upcoming EOS R8 camera is on the way very soon. This rumor has been more heavily reinforced by even more recent specs leaks for the new full-frame mirrorless camera.
According to the latest from the Japanese website Digicame.info, the R8 will come with a host of powerful and useful specs that feature the following:
- 24MP full-frame CMOS sensor
- Dual-Pixel CMOS AF II capacity with subject detection, particularly for vehicles and animals
- DIGIC X Processor
- Continuous burst shooting at 40fps
- C-Log3
- 4K 60p video with 6K oversampling for sharper resolution
- Streaming via USB-C
- A new body design
- Vari-angle rear screen
- 461g weight
Curiously, the specs leaks also claim that the camera won’t have in-body image stabilization. This is a shame, but the rest of the specs above definitely make this an enticing model at its rumored price of just $1,499 for the body alone.
As other rumors we mentioned yesterday indicated, the EOS R8 will likely also be released along with a new and highly compact RF 24-50mm f/4.5-6.3 lens that will set the camera’s price at $1,699.
This new R8 release is reportedly set to be a replacement for Canon’s existing EOS RP-edition camera.
Another still-unconfirmed rumor is that the camera will be released at roughly the same time as a new Canon EOS R50 model with an APS-C sensor.
This latter camera will reportedly be available with a new RF-S 55-210mm f/5-7.1 IS STM lens model that will set the EOS RP’s price at $1,029. Buying only the body will set you back by $679 according to the price rumors.
We’ll likely know many more details as the huge CP+ camera and video equipment event in Japan continues throughout February.
For the time being, Canon lovers can definitely be pleased if the above specs leaks and rumors pan out.
The rumored prices of both cameras are fairly reasonable and Canon’s reported RF 24-50mm f/4.5-6.3 lens sounds like a great compact zoom option for the budget RF lens market.
