Hi everyone, I’m Silvio, an Italian photographer.
I take pictures at weddings but I’m not a proper “wedding photographer.” I mean, I do love taking pictures at weddings – but over the years I’ve worked for publishers and corporates and when I decided to start telling wedding stories, I realized that I’d taken the language of photojournalism with me.
I usually dislike shooting posed photos since my thought is, “If I tell you what you have to do, you won’t find yourself in pictures but just a fictional setup that I’m staging for you.”
The wedding day is rich with meaningful moments: I’m happy when I’m able to catch the bride and groom’s happiness as well as their worried and tired expressions. I aim to give value to the intimacy of the couple and create essential atmospheres. I also love to capture the ironic moments and contradictions of this exciting day.
Every couple is unique and the most important thing to me is to be able to translate this uniqueness into pictures. I’m interested in catching the authenticity of people’s relationships. Every time is a huge chance for human growth.
My main gear is Nikon but sometimes I carry with me a Fuji X-E2
with a Fujinon 18mm f/2
– it’s small, light and unobtrusive.
Over the years, my gear bag has evolved and I now try to carry with me only true essential items. I use two bags: Vanguard Vojo messenger bag
and Hama Track Pack backpack

An “old” lady. My first love still has a lot to say.
Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8
A great zoom lens that I use all throughout the wedding day and especially during the preparation and reception. It’s very sharp. In addition to the sharpness, the feature I love about this lens is its versatility.
Nikon 35mm f/1.8
I love this focal length. For me, it’s perfect for telling wedding stories in a documentary style. I love to stay close to the couple, so I use it a lot for portraits. It’s always mounted on one of the camera bodies. I may upgrade and replace it with the f/1.4 version Nikon or Sigma. However, I will continue to use the f/1.8 because even though this lens is designed for the Nikon DX format, when used on a full-frame camera it creates a “natural” vignetting effect that I love.
A lens which is worth much more than it costs. I use it in portrait sessions.
Nikon 17-35mm f/2.8
This is a very good lens, but right now I’m not using it very much.
Nikon SB-600
and SB-900
I prefer to shoot in ambient light whenever possible, but during dances I use these to create light effects by mixing speedlite and ambient light.
Cheaper but useful manual triggers.
Neewer PT-176S LED panel
A cheap, small and useful LED panel. Sometimes I use it on the dance floor as an alternative to speedlite.
Cliff’s tail
Last but not least, Cliff’s tail. It isn’t part of the gear… :) but Cliff is part of my world, so I’m glad it appears in the picture.
