My name is Yogue Alencar and I am a freelance photographer and a photography teacher. I’ve been working on projects as a cinematographer and also develop some artistic nude projects (related).

I was born in Brasilia, Brazil, but I have Sao Paulo as my creative hub. I like to travel to places where I’m able to imply my ideas and emotions, dedicating my work to photoshoots and women portraits.

Today, in addition to digital photography, I chose to work with analog cameras because they satisfy the feeling of building an image from the beginning to the end, from the capture, development and expansion processes.

Also, I scan my negatives to turn them into digital. I’m always accompanied by two Lowepro backpacks filled with necessary equipment and items for my well being while I’m traveling.

Cameras:

Canon 6D – I chose to work with this camera for it’s high benefit and low cost, as it gives good resources for those who work with natural light like me. (see Canon 6D vs 7D here).

Canon Elan 7 NE – Despite being an analog camera from 2004, it is my brand new acquisition, with no clicks. It has a very fast focus system, very similar to the current Rebel series. I started doing tests with it in my kit.

Canon Rebel T4i – I keep it as a backup camera and also do some making of videos with it.

Canon EOS 5 – First Analog camera I had. It has taken more than 5 falls and still going strong. I keep using it because it has the same mount of my lens, but it will be completely replaced by Elan very soon.

Yashica FX-D Quartz – It was a gift from my uncle, who had saved it in a box since the 70’s. I decided to keep it by the technical difficulty of use that it requires to perform the focus, and the possibility to maintain a different film than I am using in other cameras. Normally I use B&W TX400. With this gift, I received all the filters listed below (and others that I decided not to put in use).

Fujifilm Instax Mini 90 – only for fun backstage pics with friends and models, allow me to have quick and diferent photos with a different esthetic from what I’m used to do in my work, with a super light equipment in the backpack.

Lenses:

Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art Series – lens that I use most because I love to compose pictures with large environments.

Canon 85mm f/1.2 L II USM – second most used lens, especially because of the low depth of field and large aperture. As I do not use flash is an important lens in my kit.

Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS II USM – beautiful for portraits and journalistic photos. I like to use it on trips or when I want to bring a candid look to my photos.

Canon Lens 50mm f/1.8 II – cheap and lightweight, yet use a lot, especially along the T4i for making videos.

Video:

GoPro Hero – First I had. Started recording in the highest points of the locations I shot. Today it’s always engaged in the bumper of my car when I visit amazing locations or travel on nice roads.

GoPro Hero 4 Black – With superior quality, I use it on the top of my cameras, on a head belt or on a go pole. All takes are used for classes and workshops.

Kodak Cinema Plus-X 80 (handmade put in a XTRA 400 Shell) – this is a cinema film with high contrast sensibility that was fractionated and inserted in a normal film shell. In the case of this photo the capsule used is a Fuji XTRA 400, but does not correspond to the film, which is a plus x 80, having an awesome surreal contrast.

Needs:

Hugo Boss Just Different – As I work with people, especially women, I make sure I’m always well dressed and with good fragrance to deal with them.

Ferrari Scuderia World Time Carbon Series Watch – With the amount of equipment I need to use I can’t depend on check the time in my cellphone (Galaxy S4) as a watch, since I do not keep it next to me while I’m shooting, out of pockets. A watch became more than necessary after some time.

Dell Inspiron 14z-5423 – Travel computer. I’m always with it in sets to play some music, internet access, quick file downloads and instant backups. It’s not my post production computer.

Dr. Dre Beats HD Solo Black and White – when I’m on my way to a shooting I like to listen music to relax, and also for conceptual shooting to improve my creative sense. I have two neutral colors to match with all kinds of clothes, for certain occasions.

Swiss Army Pocket Knife – it works to open packaging, cut wires, adjust clothing and other necessities that may happen during a set.
