I’m Aaron Storry, a wedding photographer and photojournalist from the UK. I’m based in rural Northamptonshire and travel throughout the country (and world) to photograph weddings and assignments. Using mindfulness I’m present and in the moment which helps me to produce unique images that often have a fun and humorous edge.
When not shooting weddings I’m traveling the world as a photojournalist, focusing much of my time on the European refugee crisis, and in September 2017 I will begin a Masters in Documentary photography at the University of Arts, London.
I work quickly so it’s important that the contents of my bag are kept simple and that I carry the least amount of equipment possible. My workhorses are a pair of Canon 5D Mark III
’s which both have SpiderPro Bolts attached, and a lineup of L series lenses.
At one point or another I’ve probably owned every Canon L lens from 16mm through to 200mm but after years of refinement for weddings I’ve settled on 3 main ‘go-to’ lenses: I use the Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L USM
for roughly 75% of my job, the focal length is perfect for my journalistic style and I love the characteristics of it.
Next is a Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L USM II
which usually only comes on in the evening for dance floor antics where space might be at a premium, and finally a Canon EF 135mm f/2.0L USM
which is my portrait lens. In the back of my car as backup I also carry a Canon EF 85mm f/1.8
and Sigma 50mm Art f/1.4
but they rarely get used.
Everything fits snugly into the amazing Think Tank Airport Essentials
. It’s the only bag I’ve found which can house 2 bodies (lenses attached) and can be slung on your back. It’s also perfect for taking onboard international flights, as the weight can be disguised due to the compact size.
For other projects, I use a Canon 1Dx
and Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM II
and Canon EF 16-35mm f/4.0L IS USM
. Where the situation demands it the Canon 1Dx
has an insanely fast burst rate which frequently comes in very useful.
