Request a Shotkit

Shotkit features the camera gear of the best professional and amateur photographers from around the world, giving you a unique peek at the tools of the trade. I have contacted or been contacted by many photographers who have kindly opened up their camera bags and given us an insight into their technical process. However, there are still a multitude of great photographers out there just waiting to be discovered!
Shotkit is a way to see what gear photographers use, and also to showcase their work on a global stage. In the first couple of weeks alone, Shotkit was proud to welcome over 60,000 visitors from all over the world. This means that if you were involved, your work has been under the eye balls of a lot of photography enthusiasts!
Which photographer’s gear would you most like to take see? Leave their name along with why you think they should be on Shotkit in the comments below and let’s see what we can do ;-)

Hey Mark,
I recommend Natalia Kempin (Natalia Die Hexe) from Germany.
She is 100 % into concert / live photography!
Most of her works represent big metal and rock events such as Wacken (80K visitors), Summer Breeze (40-45K visitors), but also “single” shows and concerts.
Her works were published in the music magazines (e.g. Metal Hammer, Legacy, Dark City, Perkusista, Batterie), bands’ biographies (e.g. Behemoth) and CDs / DVDs, but also were seen on NAMM, TAMA drum festival and Musikmesse (e.g. for the Pearl Europe’s booth).
Apparently, she is also a singer who had released 5 albums with several bands and a model (modeled for a thrash / death metal band from the Netherlands).
Metal is not an easy genre to photograph since apart of the difficulties a photographer may meet at a show, in order to be successful as a rock / metal photographer (and especially on a festival), one has to be able to shoot under the rain and while being blown away by a hurricane, almost being killed by crowd surfers and pyro effects on the stage and always fighting oceans of dust (a gentle reminder – Wacken, 80K visitors) and a fog machine!!!
I love her works a lot and follow her pretty much everywhere :)!
Big thumb up and give her a go!
Thanks Helene – we’ll invite Natalia for sure :)

Cumps
Hi mark
I have an idea for you. As a newbie it’s both intimidating and inspirational reading the posts by those turning out stunning images (I’m a wedding photographer but this may apply to others too). I have picked up numerous tips from this site and been amazed at how some of the photographers on here use such simple kit to produce the results they get. Then others use a tonne of kit, homemade gadgets, crazy techniques etc. It’s a brilliant insight into how photographers have found their ‘style’.
It would be great to have a newcomer Spotlight. Photographers that have been in business for under 2 years. What kit they started with, how they have evolved, influences and the direction they want to head in. Then perhaps the established pros can comment with hints, tips etc. there could be a set 6 questions the newbies have to answer. You could do one a month.
Anyways, keep up the good work. I thoroughly enjoy reading shot kit for all the styles and genres of photography.
Greg
Hi Greg, that’s a great idea – thanks so much for sharing. I need to get my head around how to work something like this into the site, but I agree that it’d be a great resource for newbies. Watch this space ;-)
I’d be open to sharing my noob photography journey. Been shooting for less than two years.
Everything shot on that page was with a Fujifilm X-20 on my first photo class/workshop.
Not bad at all George! I’ll be in touch if I proceed with this.

Hey Mark,
Here’s a short list of a few really talented guys who are some of the best in their perspective fields of work. I would love to know what these guys take along when they go to work, how they take it with them – ie. packing and transport (on airplanes), and how they carry their gear while working in the field. And of course, at the end of the day when they’re done shooting, what their processing workflow is like.

ERIKA + LANNY MANN – http://www.twomann.com
TODD LAFFLER – http://www.lafflerphotography.com
Thanks so much for all you do to keep us informed and inspired, Shotkit rocks!
Hey Rich! Thanks for the comment and kind words – I’m glad you enjoy Shotkit. I’ve already contacted all those photographers in the past actually and they all agreed to contribute :-) Erika just submitted today – weird timing! I’ll be publishing them all in the coming months.
My older brother, Chris Glenn, he recently left the confines of his desk job to tackle his photography career head on… he’s been killing it lately, granted I never see him anymore I can only assume he’s out shooting (or in a dark corner editing like crazy). Most of his work is down in the Florida Keys. Thanks!
Thanks Michael – I’ll take a look!
I would love to see Sam Elkins, hes a photographer in the Washington area and his style is so emotional. Really well done. Lost of landscapes and portraits his use ( or lack of) color is really amazing. I would really like to see him on ShotKit!
I hope you can feature Rylee Hitchner. She’s a film photographer specializing in weddings and editorial. https://ryleehitchner.com/ Just found your site via Ben Sasso and I’m enjoying it so much. Good luck and keep up the good work here.

I met James in Bangkok, 3 weeks ago. Nice guy!
Hi,
I would like to see…
Fabio Bucciarelli
Jan Grarup
Pep Bonet
James Nachtwey
Guiellm Valle
Manu Brabo
Antonin Kratochvil
Thanks for introducing me to such a fine selection of photojournalists Magnus! PJ is definitely an underrepresented genre on Shotkit. James Nachtwey’s name cropped up in an interview with Nordica which I’ll be posting soon. Unfortunately I couldn’t find any contact details for him, but consider all the others contacted ;-)
Kurt boomer photography! Amazing work with film!
We do need some more film shooters on Shotkit! Thanks Abbey, let’s see what he says.
Can you please upload Matt Donovan’s kit from itsworthashot.com (@itsworthashot on instagram).
I’ve been following him for a while now he takes the most beautiful landscape photos from all over Australia. Top questions would be: what did you start off with vs what you have now. And what equipment hacks do you have for emerging photographers who can’t afford all the wiz-bang stuff?
Thank you thank you thank you in advance!!!!!!!!
I’ll see what I can do Katie!
Randy Braun – http://www.randyjaybraun.com A very talented photographer in Maui who has now branched out into some spectacular drone photography.
Speedhunters Lee Chen
Coming soon!
Definitely would like to see what she carries in her kit bag as she is more of a environmental portrait/editorial/commercial photographer, and would also add to the female roster as someone asked for.
(Mackenzie Stroh) for some reason her name and link did not make it with my first post.
Thanks for the suggestion Rudy – Mackenzie’s work is amazing! Fingers crossed she’s keen on submitting to Shotkit!
David Burnett, one of my all time favorite photojournalists. He is legendary for doing things like covering Olympic events with large format cameras or shooting portraits for Time with a Holga. It would be interesting to see what he’s carrying around at the moment and more love for PJs here would be cool.
Justin Hackworth, he’s does weddings, portraits and some concert photography in Utah. His images always convey an incredible sense of intimacy with his subjects so I think it might be neat to see what he’s using or more importantly not using while getting his subjects to let down their guard.
David has kindly agreed to send in his submission soon :-)
I’d love to see a bit more on kits used by lifestyle photographers. Love the site, sometimes it feels like window shopping!
