My name is Catalin Biedron, I live in Germany and I am a wedding photographer. But my heart is beating more and more for people who tell me their stories and show me the diversity of their culture and their traditions. To capture their smiles, knowledge and everyday life, have made me a different person.

My picture language focuses on the character and dignity of man and nature. I remember every moment into their world and I am allowed to be part of their story. I don’t want to be just an observer, but a listener and time catcher.

Someone who can turn the mood of an everyday moment into a valuable memory. Photography is an emotional journey for me. A journey that inspires me and that I would not experience without my camera.

As far as the technical equipment is concerned, it all started with the Canon 50D. In the beginning, only friends were photographed. For weddings, I use the 5D Mark II, while the 5D Mark III became my travel companion. However, I realized after one month of backpacking that the camera was too big for my kind of photography. I really wanted to have a small model, so as not to stand out.

I researched on the Internet and then decided to go for the Sony a7III. The Sony a7III lies much better in my hand and the most important thing is that it is small, so I get more attention as a person than my camera. With the Sony a7 III, you can also film very well, but you need very steady hands.

Since I have no desire for a gimbal, I was looking for a camera that can do both very well. With the Fujifilm I found the X-T4, it is now my companion. I love its retro look, also the skin tones and the filming make me feel much more fun than with the Sony. Even without a gimbal, you get beautiful recordings.

Sigma 35mm f/1.4
– Sony 85mm f/1.8
– Fujifilm 16-55mm f/2.8

With the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 and the Fujifilm 16-55mm f/2.8 I take pictures on dearest, so I come very close to the people and can also come from far away photograph. I like the depth of field and the way lenses capture the light. They are perfect for most situations.

I’m more of a photographer with natural light, but when I need to flash, then with Godox V1-S. This flash makes everything much easier, you don’t have to change batteries or search for full ones.

I recently bought the Peter Mckinnon backpack from Nomatic and am so happy that I can now keep everything in one place. In the past, everything was in a few different small carrier bags, which can be used on trips, was a nightmare. Again and again, I had to rummage around in a bag on the ground to find something. I also think it’s great that this backpack does not look like a normal camera bag!

I have the SmallRig double camera strap and I am very satisfied. It lies well is comfortable and safe. But it is only used for weddings – with two cameras while traveling it gets really annoying after a while.

I have two tripods that I use very rarely – the Cullmann Nanomax 490 and the Hama Traveller 117 ball. If I need a tripod, I use the latter, because it is very light and small.

Hardware & Software

I love working with Lightroom and Photoshop on my iMac 27 inch.

I pack my photo backpack and take it with me. In my backpack, the Fujifilm X-T4 comes with the 16-55mm 2.8 lens and four SanDisk 64 GB memory cards and three batteries NP-W235 from Fujifilm. That’s all I need.

Final Words

From the very beginning, my greatest motivation was to capture what I saw, that special moment that is already past in the next second. Only through authenticity and a message can a snapshot become a work of art. As a photographer, I try to realize exactly this claim picture by picture. | @catalin_biedron
