Emilie Sandy
Hello, I’m Emilie and I have been shooting for around 15 years.
My practice encompasses environmental portraiture as well as exploring my subjects through a social documentary approach – real-life stuff.
Cameras
Canon 5D Mark III – I’ve always been a Canon girl. My love for them began with the first film camera my Dad gave me – the Canon AE-1 – and I’ve never looked back since!
Lenses
Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 – What can I say, apart from that it’s a great versatile lens for shooting my portraits.
Canon 50mm f/1.4 – I love this lens! It’s great for low light and is incredibly sharp.
Lights/Triggers
Elinchrom Quadra Ranger – My life got A LOT easier when I bought this kit! It’s so portable and lightweight.
PocketWizard Plus II – Great triggers. I’ve tried and tested several others, but this brand is the King of triggers for me.
Bags/Straps
Lowepro 450 AW – I’ve had this bag from the very beginning of my career; I think that says it all.
Hardware & Software
Lightroom and Photoshop – I don’t use presets. I will edit as I go along, making use of the sync function as well as checking every individual image.
Misc.
White card, chewing gum, basic makeup and toiletries, snacks on the go and water.
Gear is important but most importantly you need good ideas before you can use your gear to achieve the vision.
Here are two of my current projects:
11 Mothers. 11 Journals
11 Mothers. 11 Journals explores honest reflections of women, through personal journals and documentary photography; capturing individual happiness, sadness, despair, uncertainty, the ‘mundane’ and more.
