Eolo Perfido

Portrait, Street | Last Updated: April 4, 2024

My name is Eolo Perfido and I’m a 43 years old French born photographer based in Rome.

Here in Rome I run with my wife a beautiful studio where In the last years I shot several assignments for international advertising and comunication agencies such as JWT, Saatchi & Saatchi, Leo Burnett, Young & Rubicam, BBDO, Corbis, Pepsi Cola, Kraft, Gatorade, Novartis, Sky Italia.

Since I got in love with photography I experimented several genres and the ones I feel more comfortable with are Portrait and Street Photography.

So my Shotkit is quite large and reflects the different moments of my photographic activities.

Studio Cameras:

For my studio assignments I chose Canon several years ago and I still feel really comfortable with this choice.

I have two Canon 5D Mark III that are just what I feel to be the perfect camera. Autofocus is really fast, focusing even in very dark environments and the high iso performance are just awesome.

I have also a Canon 70D that I use mainly for video purpose. I love its focus tracking features.

Studio Lenses:

I have many prime and zoom lenses. I tried nearly all Canon lenses and in the years I preferred to stay in the 1.8 realm that get the 1.2 or 1.4 primes. The reason is that I’m always travelling with so much stuff the weight optimization became I primary issue.

My favourite portrait lenses are the Canon 85mm f/1.8 and the Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro. They are both sharp, fast and give me great flexibility when I work near my subjects.

I also have several Canon 50mm f/1.8 lenses, a Canon 35mm f/2.0 and a Canon 40mm f/2.8 pancake. I don’t use them very often but you never know when you may need them.

The zoom package is made of a Canon 17-40mm f/4, a Canon 24-70mm f/2.8, a Canon 24-105mm f/4 and a Canon 70-200mm f/4.

I use zooms mainly for my corporate and reportage assignments. When I need extreme flexibility nothing is better than a good zoom. My favourite lens is the Canon 24-105mm f/4 stabilized. If I have to take with me only one lens this is the right one.

My CF Memory Cards are Transcend 400x 32GB cards and Sandisk Extreme 16GB cards.

My kit picture misses some of my studio equipment: I work with Bowens studio lights and several 600-led light panels.

Street Photography Cameras:

Street Photography for me means Leica and wide angle lenses. I cannot imagine to shoot with a different camera.

I work with a Leica MP typ 240 with a Summicron 35mm f/2 and a Leica Q with its wonderful fixed 28mm f/1.7 lens.

When I shoot Street Photography I need to be very light, invisible and with a razor sharp and fast camera. Low light performances are very important because most of the time my camera is set to 1600 iso.

I mostly work in zone focus so the Leica lenses’ precision is a must.

When I shoot street I don’t like to have my camera on my neck for hours so I’m using a Black Rapid Classic RS-4 instead of a neck strap.

My SD memory cards are Transcend 600x 32GB and Samsung SD Pro 64GB.

Vintage Cameras:

Rarely I still take some pictures in film. Mostly for my Fine Art projects. My tools are a very old Yashica Mat-124 medium format camera and my lovely Nikon Fm2.

Extra Equipment:

I normally try to travel light but at the end I’m always taking with me so much stuff :)

A couple of Canon 580EX Flashes with a ton of rechargable batteries.

I also take with me one or more Lite Panels MicroPro led light. I often use them to light my portraits as a main or back light mixing it with ambient light or just in a dark environment to create a dramatic effect.

If I need to consider post production during my travel I take with me a Mac Book Pro 15” Retina with 16GB of ram and SSD hard drive with an external Akitio Taurus Mini 2.5″ Raid hard drive.

I cannot work without graphic tablet so I take with me my Wacom Intuos 5S perfect to work with a laptop. When I’m in my studio I work with a wonderful Wacom Cintiq 22HD.

If I will not have to do some post production work I take with me a very light Chromebook for my browsing and emails needs.

If I want to be even lighter my 12” Samsung Galaxy Note works very well and its also a very cool portable porfolio thanks to the very big screen.

My phone is an Android One plus One with 64GB of ram. I like its camera; very useful for location scouting and video backstages.

To charge all my usb devices instead of taking with me several charges I optimized with a Anker 40W 8A Charger with Power IQ.

To recharge my usb devices on the move I use a Rav Power External Battery charger.

Software:

Software is not made of atoms but its still part of every photographer kit!

I’m an Adobe Cloud user. That means Photoshop, Lightroom and Premiere.

I also use 3D programs for my advertising campaigns and my favourite tools are Luxology Modo 901 and Blender 3D.

The Microsoft Office suite for writing and presentations.

Evernote is my digital memory and Feedly my news center.
and Steam for Games :)

Entertainment:

A Nintendo 3DS and a Sony PS Vita are my companions when I’m often traveling alone. Mostly I play Japanese rpg’s.

And to finish and get a little bit more Analog you can always find in my bag a Moleskine for notes and sketches and my two favourite pipes that I smoke every evening when I feel that the day is really finished. Some serious tobacco is a must.
