I’m a professional photographer living in Minnesota, USA. I’ve been a full-time pro for over ten years now, and I am a frequent contributor to Outdoor Photographer Magazine, a Contributing Editor to Popular Photography Magazine, a monthly columnist for Landscape Photography Magazine, and a Tamron Image Master.
I’m the author of numerous books and instructional videos, and I lead photography workshops and tours around the world.
My personal photographic project is called “Dreamscapes.” Basically, I’m looking with my photography to move beyond the literal, transforming my subjects using the photographic process into something unexpected, bridging the line between the real and surreal (guide).
I rely on long exposures, unique lighting conditions, non-traditional perspectives, and special natural events to show my subjects in a new light. I travel the world, seeking out the hidden spaces in between the familiar, in my never-ending quest to inspire, entertain, and educate others in the art of photography.
It is important to note that I don’t rely on extensive computer manipulation, something that is becoming more and more common these days. I consider myself a photographer, not a computer artist, and as such I rely on field technique (and a lot of patience) to record real events, artistically interpreted through the photographic process.
To me, photography is all about capturing those rare, special, and authentic moments, and I’m glad I’m there to witness them first hand, to capture them with my camera, and to share them with others. Call me quaint, but I believe that the magic is found out there, not sitting in front of a computer!
