My name is Maaike Ronhaar I am a autodidact photographer from the Netherlands. I work under the name Maron Stills. My main focus is music and documentary photography. For me that means shooting events that move around music; onstage, backstage in the studio and on the road.
I want to capture the raw energy of the artists, for me that works best in black and white; you cannot hide behind fancy colours. Music is half your life, it is something magical that accompanies you through good and bad times. Experiencing music live can be magical and that is what I want to show the people who look at my work.
I have a very specific style, a raw, dark, intense style. I think it is important to have that a signature style that separates you from the crowd.
I started shooting with the Sony a6000 in 2016 but soon I wanted a camera that could give me a bit more and I switched to full frame.
I select lenses depending on what I shoot. If I am on tour with the band I take all my lenses but when I am shooting at a small(er) venue I just bring the 16-35mm f/2.8 GM and 24-70mm f/2.8 GM.
For the backstage and on the road jobs I always use the Zeiss 35mm f/1.4 it’s a great low light lens. Especially in combination with the A7 bodies that I use, both are great in low light I can shoot in 10000 ISO and still have a good photo.
Also the dynamic range of both cameras is insane and very necessary when shooting in smaller venues with sometimes just a bit of LED light.
In 2018 I noticed that Sony did not have a female ambassador in the music scene listed on their website. I contacted them and requested that I could be the first female Sony European Imaging Ambassador in the music scene in Europe.
They accepted and I am so happy that the brand I love wants to work with me and loves my style.
