Martin Hecht

Wedding | Last Updated: February 18, 2021

Hey Guys, my name is Martin and I am a photographer – no not only a photographer but a wedding photographer from Göppingen in Germany.

I have been accompanying newlyweds on their most beautiful day for 10 years now and I love keeping the memories alive and seeing the bright eyes when my couples get their pictures.

My main gear is a Sony A9 camera, for backup I have a Sony A7 III, and for my party pictures, I use the Panasonic Lumix GX9 with a Walimex Pro 7.5mm FishEye.

Last year, I changed from Canon to Sony – I took the step to change my equipment just because of the weight that I carry around with me all day. I loved my Canon 1D-X but in the long run, it just became too difficult.

Cameras

Sony A9:  My main camera body and I use it every time on the wedding day. This camera is as fast and reliable as an old Porsche and I love it.

Sony A7III:  My backup body and normally I don’t use it ;-)

Lumix GX9:  This is my party camera and in the evening when the wedding party goes on, I use it with a 7.5mm FishEye for the epic party pics.

Lenses

Canon 35mm f/1.4:  My most used lens. I love the image look that this lens creates and since I still haven’t found a suitable one from Sony, I still use it.

Sigma MC-11 Converter: This is the thing I need to use my Canon lenses on the Sony cameras. The converter works fast and works with all functions of the camera and lens.

Canon 16-35mm f/4: This is my party lens when I use the Sony A9 at the party.

Sony 28mm f/2:  I bought this lens because it is small, light, and a bit wider than my Canon 35mm f/1.4 but I don’t need it – it’s nice to have.

Sony 50mm f/1.8:  Nice to have.

Sony 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6:  Nice to have but not used.

Sony 85mm f/1.8:  This is the lens I use sometimes for portrait shots, but normally I take 90 percent of the wedding day with my Canon 35mm f/1.4 lens.

Samyang 14mm f/2.8:  This is a new one.  I bought it last week and it’s nice to have.

Samyang 18mm f/2.8:  Same as the Samyang 14mm, it’s new and nice to have.

Walimex Pro 7.5mm FishEye:  The Party Lens – look at the camera – it’s a great camera, and I shot the pictures with aperture 11 and I never look at what I shot – it’s the Party Machine 😉

Lights/Triggers

3x Godox V860II-S:  My Flashes to make my own Light and effects at the party. During the day, I shoot only with available Light.

Godox XPro-O:  Trigger for the Lumix.

Godox XPro-S:  Trigger for the Sonys.

Bags/Straps

PeliCase 1510:  This Case I bought 6 years ago and it’s my safe.  All cameras and lenses are inside and you can use the case to sit or stand on – it just doesn’t matter. It’s the best case.

Tamrac Pro12 Bag:  It’s the bag for the flash stuff – all my flash stuff is inside and it’s very big.

Compagnon Messenger 1st Generation:  I love my messenger.  This was my first leather bag and it’s so soft buffalo Leather.

PeakDesign Leash:  For the Sony A7 III.

SmallRig Camera Strap:  For my Sony A9.

Tripods

Some from Walimex and other Brands

Hardware & Software

ASUS ROG Intel i7 Laptop with 32 GB Ram:  This is the main computer that I use to edit my pictures. Since I no longer have an office and had to give my room to my little Frida when she was born, I only work with a laptop and this works very well with this machine.

Microsoft Surface Pro Intel i7:  It’s the machine to edit my pictures when I go outside or at hotel and vacation. The Surface is always there when I’m on the go. It has a lot of power, is small and light, and allows me to edit my pictures no matter where I am.

Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Lightroom

Misc.

5x Sony NPFZ100:  For the Sony A9 and Sony A7 III.

3x Panasonic DMW-BLG10:  For the Lumix GX9.

SanDisk Extreme Pro SD Cards 128GB, SanDisk Extreme Pro SD Cards 64GB, and SanDisk Extreme Pro SD Cards  32GB

ProGrade SD Cards 64GB

DJI Mavic Mini Copter:  I use it on the wedding day to capture group pictures of the guests when I have more than 30 People to shoot.

And a lot of glucose drops ;-) for me and the kids at the wedding.

Some clothes and shoes, stuff for the pictures, and a lot of misc things.

I love my job and I love the people at all the weddings I have photographed. Being a wedding photographer is a very hard business sometimes. But when you love that what you do – then is it the right way.
