My kit stays relatively consistent, though I do swap out lenses here and there depending on whether I’m photographing a wedding or a commercial shoot. Here’s what is currently in my bag:
Canon 35mm f/1.4 – The first lens I bought and the lens I would take with me if I could only take one. Extremely versatile, plus I love shooting wide in general.
Canon 50mm f/1.2 – Beautiful lens, also very versatile.
Canon 24-70mm f/2.8II – This is the newest addition. It’s the latest version which is sharper and faster. I don’t normally use zoom lenses, but I’ve found that I really like using this one, especially for studio work.
Canon 45mm f/2.8 Tilt Shift – Such a fun lens to play with. Love bringing it with me when we travel and I like to use it for portraits to mix things up a bit. It’s one of those lenses, however, that you have to be careful not to overuse.
Canon 135mm f/2 – Nice to have this focal length in the bag. Comes in handy for weddings, but it’s also great for street photography.
Canon 5D Mark III – I use 2 of these. I also have a couple 5D Mark II ‘s as backups.
Canon 580EX II – I only use this if necessary.
Polaroid SX-70 – I love shooting Polaroids and always have this with me.
Contax G2 – I used to use this all the time and every time I see photos that I’ve taken with it, I wonder why I don’t use it more. Such an awesome little camera and there’s nothing like shooting film.
Roberu Straps – leather straps made by a Japanese company called Roberu. They age so beautifully and get soft with time.
Hoodman Loupe – A handy tool for bright daylight situations when it’s hard to see your screen. I put this over the back screen so I can check my exposure and focus.
Gels – I love using these to experiment and have fun with. I’ll throw one in front of the lens and it can create a colorful, dreamy effect.
Think Tank Pixel Pocket Rocket – I put all my CF cards in here, you can clip it on or attach it to your bag. It can hold up to 10 cards.
Promos – I always have a handful of commercial promos that I throw in my bag in case I need to hand them out. You never know!
