I am a photographer based in Los Angeles. I have been taking pictures professionally for 10 years. I started out photographing for magazines in San Francisco then started shooting more advertising and commercial work since I moved to Los Angeles in 2008. I photograph both still-life and people for various commercial clients.
I have never been a gear head and I usually stick with what I know and try to be creative on ideas and concepts, I use Canon Mark III with 24mm-70mm f/2.8
lens and 100mm f/2.8 Macro
lens with Profoto Acute 1200 with three lights as basic set in my studio, but when I am on a big budget commercial job, I usually rent a commercial studio and equipment (Profoto 7A
, X 2400w and whatever Canon camera that is best fit for the project like Canon 5DS R
).
I love Elinchrom modifiers and own both Rotalux Octa Deep 27.5 inch and Rotalux Octa 53 inch
. I also use Elinchrom umbrellas
(silver deep
, silver
, white
). When I don’t use modifiers, I sometimes use a grid with my reflector.
Recently, I have been playing with color gels too. It all depends on what I am photographing and what kind of mood I am trying to achieve in pictures. Even when I am not on a job, I try to shoot something in my studio as often as I can. I almost think of it as a musician practicing piano or guitar! It is important to get your hands on the camera and equipment and experiment…keep reinventing your style and vision.
