Need Photo Storage? These World Backup Day Discounts Still Apply

News | By Stephan Jukic | April 2, 2024

In case you didn’t know about it, yesterday, March 31st, was World Backup Day, in honor of backup data storage, and discounts abounded. Some are still running.

Data backup for your photographic or video creations is one of those things it’s easy to forget, right until you suffer a catastrophic loss of valuable work.

I’d know, because it happened to me at least a couple of catastrophic times before I learned my hard lesson.

Cloud solutions for data backup do exist and are a crucial part of any 3-2-1 backup strategy, but having a local, external storage option on hand is also vital.

These are ideal for keeping second copies of your photos on hand for whatever comes up. If you want to be extra cautious, you can even set up dual backup drives for maximum in-home data protection.

The discounts below let you shave a bit (or in some cases a lot) off the cost of your data backup plan in a way that doesn’t apply all year.

And quite frankly, if you’re even thinking that it might be a good idea to start backing up your photographic work, then it almost certainly is.

Backup truly is crucial simply because drive and computer loss can hit completely out of the blue.

Without further ado, here are some of today’s more interesting selections of discounts on backup systems, external hard drives, SSDs, memory cards and other options:

External Desktop Drives:

These compact external storage units aren’t nearly as travel-friendly as portable SSDs and HD drives but if you need an absolute ton of external backup space for your major work, they’re superbly secure solutions for rapid mass backup.

Western Digital 16TB Elements Desktop External Hard Drive $259.99 (normally $309.99)

Seagate Expansion 16TB External Hard Drive $249.99 (normally $329.99)

Seagate IronWolf 4TB NAS Internal Hard Drive $79.99 (normally $94.99)

LaCie Professional 20TB USB 3.1 Type C External Desktop Drive $749.00 (normally $949.99)

Portable External Hard Drives

Whether SSD or HDD, a portable external drive is one of your best options for massive storage that you can take anywhere securely. The better models can last for years even after extensive use.

WD Elements 2TB USB 3.0 Portable External Hard Drive $69.99 (normally $89.99)

Samsung T7 Shield 4TB Portable SSD $299.44 (normally $499.99)

Samsung SSD T7 1TB Portable External SSD $109.99 (normally $159.99)

Memory Cards

These hardly need any introductions for any working photographer or video creator. I don’t recommend using memory cards as long-term photo or video storage solutions, but having a few extra for ongoing work is always a good idea.

SDXC

Lexar 128GB Professional 2000x SDXC $107.98 (normally $169.99)

Lexar 256GB (2-Pack) Professional 1667x SDXC $114.49 (normally $174.99)

Samsung PRO Plus Full Size 256GB SDXC $25.44 (normally $35.99)

MicroSDXC

Samsung EVO Select 256GB microSDXC $17.61 (normally $29.99)

Samsung PRO Endurance 128GB MicroSDXC $17.99 (normally $27.99)

CFexpress Type A and B

Lexar 512GB Professional Silver SE CFexpress Type B $137.63 (normally $149.93)

ProGrade Digital 256GB CFexpress Type B $127.99 (normally $149.99)

Sony CEA-G160T 160GB CFexpress Type A $305.49 (normally $399.99)

OWC Atlas Ultra 1.0TB High-Performance CFexpress 4.0 Type B $479.99 (normally $579.99)
