Hey, I’m Rosa and one half of the husband and wife team Engel | Wedding Photos.
It’s nearly 4 years ago that Patrick asked me to come with him and shoot a wedding as his second shooter. I started the day without any big expectations and was completely struck by the beauty, energy, and emotions I felt.
I fell in love with wedding photography and from this day on I was addicted.
When I started I didn’t know anything about photography. All I had was my sense of colors, lines, and aesthetics, which I had from studying design before.
Patrick was my photography teacher and I’m so very thankful he shared all his knowledge with me.
Photography gave me a voice. I’m a very introverted person and talking to people often is difficult. It seems to me that my camera is kind of a magical translation machine that makes it possible to let people see what I see and feel what I feel without saying a word.
For me, a good picture doesn’t come from exciting gear but from the person behind the camera. Looking at the work of photographers I know in real life I’m still astonished about how much of the photographer is to be seen in his photos!
It’s really all about humans – in front of the camera AND behind. Maybe that’s why I want my equipment to be as safe and simple as possible. So I can put all my energy into feeling and catching the right moment.
This is what’s in my bag:
Canon EOS 6D: My first camera. It’s like a part of me :-)
Canon EOS 5D Mark III: New for this season. I hope we become friends.
Canon 35mm f/2: My favorite lens for documentary wedding photography.
Canon 85mm f/1.8: Best portrait lens ever.
Canon Speedlite 430EX RT II: There has to be light for a good picture.
Shyzuka Straps: Super duper comfortable.
My Bag: Think Tank Retrospective 40
