Simple Tapestry

Wedding | Last Updated: February 1, 2021

Hi, we’re Brideen and Deci, a husband and wife wedding photography duo. Belfast is home, but we shoot all around Europe and beyond.

My background was band photography and Brideen’s was fine art. Along with a shared love for TV and film cinematography, this has been a huge influence on our style.

We love the crazy unpredictability of weddings – documenting all the chaos as it unfolds. It’s a bit of an adrenaline buzz and draws on so many photographic disciplines; you have to be good at documenting, portraiture, landscapes, action and fine art.

If you’d seen our gear list at the start of 2018, it was totally different. Before shooting with Sony we had used Nikon our entire career.

Switching to mirrorless felt like a great leap forward and we could never go back. Everything is lighter and more compact while being as good as any DSLR we’ve used.

We don’t like to bring too much gear to weddings, everything we use can fit into an airplane cabin bag. Being able to travel light is really important to us.

Both of us use two cameras tethered to Holdfast Money-Maker straps. Our default lens combo is 35/85 and at many weddings this is all we use.

The Sigma 35mm is crazy sharp but so heavy. I’m holding out for Sony to release a good 35mm 1.8 to save my back… HURRY UP, GUYS! Mirrorless cameras definitely feel better with lighter 1.8 primes.

Since switching to Sony I’ve been shooting a lot more with a lightweight 25/55 combo that is really discreet. The 25 Batis can give a real cinematic look to images.

We love using our Nikon Tilt/shift with our Sonys with a Metabones adapter. Focus peaking/zooming has really breathed life into this old lens.

Most of our work is natural/ambient light, but we don’t limit ourselves to it and that’s where the dinky little Godox speedlights come in.

Hi! This is such a helpful article! Thank you for posting! If you could recommend one lens with zoom range to use with this camera which would it be?
