The Curries

Wedding | Last Updated: February 23, 2021

Hello! We are The Curries, Chris and Gill, and we’ve been shooting weddings for over 10 years. We’re a husband and wife duo and have been lucky enough to capture weddings all over the world. Our favorite places apart from the UK to photograph has to be NYC, Italy and Antigua.

We started our photography business in Glasgow, Scotland before moving south to London and have now finally settled in Brighton and Hove.

We both use Canon cameras and lenses and always have. We just love the colours and tones it gives our work. Having used Canon for so long it becomes second nature when you’re working with them, it almost feels like an extension of your body and we feel this helps us to completely focus on the shot rather than worrying about our settings.

The lenses we use are all primes, these allow us to capture low-light situations with ease and we both love shooting wide-open apertures.

Cameras

Canon 5D Mark IV (x2) – Both solid cameras that are easy to use. We don’t use all the fancy stuff on it, just flick it to manual and off we go!

Lenses

Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L – Gill’s favorite lens, she’ll use this all day long if she could. Great for everything from portraits to detail shots.

Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L – My favorite lens, it’s perfect for the candid shots and makes you feel as though you are right back in the moment.

Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L – We use this for wide framed portraits as well as candid shots and any large room detail shots.

Canon EF 135mm f/2L – Perfect for staying out of sight during those intimate ceremonies and speeches.

Sigma 85mm f/1.4 – Great for ceremony and speeches, it gives such a lovely bokeh.

Lights/Triggers

Profoto A1X x2 – Our new toy and boy it’s a beaut! The light it creates is perfect. For winter weddings and the dancefloor, this is a must-have.

Bags/Straps

We use Venque bags, they are super hard wearing and have enough space for our equipment. Great for flights as well as you can have your gear packed with some room spare for bits you need on the flight, it means you can have all your gear with you without having to put it in the cargo hold.

Hardware & Software

MacBook Pro 13” – We use this for quick edits and to work when travelling.

iMac 21.5” – Our main workhorse for editing when we are home.

We use Lightroom CC to edit and use our own custom presets.

Photo Mechanic to narrow down those 1000’s of images into a more manageable number.

Jpeg Mini to help save space where we can for either image speed and size for our website, backing-up or putting the images onto the client’s USBs.

Narrative – To keep us focused on our blogging, they are also launching a new culling software that looks great!

Sandisk extreme portable SSD 2TB – To make an extra backup copy straight away at weddings.

Synology NAS Drive – To keep all our weddings safe when we return home. We always make sure after a wedding we have it backed up at least 3 times, you just never know with digital files. Better safe than sorry.

Misc.

Snacks to keep us going, sports drinks to keep us hydrated, and a sewing kit for any mishaps. Spray sunscreen to protect us on sunny days. CBD oil for a little chill out if required! Mints, tissues, the list is endless really.

We’ve been doing this for a long time and boy it never gets boring. It’s also very important to us having some close industry friends. They are always there for you to talk things over and work out ideas and any problems.

Always give the client 110% at every wedding you work. Word of mouth is such an important part of our business in getting new work and making connections.
