Desiree Shuey

Fine Art, Portrait | Last Updated: April 4, 2024

My name is Desiree Shuey and I am a Southern California-based fine art women photographer. I recently moved away from the title “boudoir” as I felt it did not reflect my work or the heart and passion I have for how I shoot and what I adore so much.

For the longest time I couldn’t figure out what I wanted to call it, then one day it just came to me…Women As Art. It was perfect! It encompassed everything I loved and felt about what and how I shoot.

My aim is to convey the beauty of women in the raw; their vulnerability, their beauty and the mysteriousness that is in every woman.

I shoot Nikon and always have. My go-to camera is my Nikon D810 and my Polaroid 340 Land Camera. My go-to lens is my Nikon 50mm f/1.4.

I occasionally use my Nikon 85mm f/1.4, but find that my Nikon 50mm f/1.4 is the one I resort to as to tend to shoot in smaller spaces which makes the Nikon 50mm f/1.4 very necessary. It’s also a great low-light lens which I love as well because I tend to look for dramatic, moody light.

I try to shoot 5-6 Polaroids every shoot as well. I have a HUGE passion for film, so the fact that I can shoot Polaroids and have them in my hands within minutes is amazing.
