Family & Maternity | Last Updated: February 14, 2021

Hi, I’m a natural light family photographer based in Northern Virginia, right outside of D.C. I’ve been shooting for about six years. It started off as a fun hobby that quickly grew into a business while living overseas as I started photographing my friends and their families. I obsess over the small details and intimate connections.

While many of my family sessions start off posed, the connections are all authentic.

I learned on a Nikon film camera and continue to shoot Nikon. I don’t remember the model of my first film camera but I started my digital photography on a Nikon 7000. My main body now is a Nikon D6 and a Nikon 810 as a second body. My Nikon 35mm 1.4 is my go-to lens that is always on one of my bodies.

Cameras

Nikon D6 – My fast, high ISO, beast of a camera. It’s new to my camera bag but my favorite to capture all genres. My favorite thing about this camera is the ability to crank up the ISO to high levels with minimal noise.

Nikon 810 – This is my second camera, which used to be my main. Love that this has the ability to lower the ISO to 64 and having a 36.3MP camera is pretty amazing for larger prints.

Lenses

Nikon 35mm f/1.4G – My go to prime lens that’s always on one of my cameras. It’s the perfect lifestyle lens that keeps me at a distance but close enough for the details. Love the bokeh when wide open and the details it captures.

Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8G EG – Love this zoom lens that allows me to quickly zoom in or out while keeping my aperture the same. Great for family sessions indoor and out!

Sigma ART 24mm f/1.4 DG – This is the perfect lens for in-home family sessions. Especially smaller homes with tight spaces. Captures colors and details beautifully.

Nikon 85mm f/1.4G – I love to use this one at the beginning or end of my sessions for some classic portraits. The creamy bokeh you get with this lens is incredible!

Bags/Straps

HoldFast Gear MoneyMaker Camera Strap – I never want to miss a moment while photographing families, especially with young kids. To prevent that, I love having two camera bodies on me with different lenses to quickly capture those connections. This strap gets the job done without getting in the way.

FOTO Camera Strap – For sessions with a single newborn baby or maternity session without kids, I use a single camera with this camera strap. Love how soft and comfortable it is.

Kamrette Bag – This is my largest bag that carries most of my gear needed to get to a session. Love that it’s fashionable and durable.

Hardware & Software

I use Lightroom CC to edit all my images. I own G-Presets which are heavily tweaked by now for my style. Sometimes I’ll transfer to Photoshop and do some creative editing there or remove items that bother me.

Misc.

These days, I make sure I have a mask, bottle of sanitizer, wipes, and a small snack for myself after the session. If my session is outdoors in a field, I always have a bottle of bug spray.

I am pretty proud of my little bag of equipment and excited to see what’s next!
