Landscape, Travel | Last Updated: April 3, 2023

My name is Helminadia. I Was born in Flores, an island in the Eastern Provinces of Indonesia, and now I’m based in Bali, Indonesia. I am a freelance photographer and for the past few years I have been afforded many opportunities to travel around, learn a lot and become very passionate about Travel and Landscape Photography.

Since I’m into Landscape Photography the sun and its timings are an important element. I usually wait until the best light to come before photographing.

This might mean waiting up till early hours in the morning so that I can set out in time to arrive before the sun has risen and capture the moments bathed in just the right colours as the sun rises. Or setting out early enough to be there at the scene for just the right time in the afternoon or early or late dusk.

Each part of the day has its special colours that bathe the scenes and give off a different mood to be captured.

The sun and its sunlight is really an amazing and infinitely varying driver and key element of everything that we see and capture. It’s easy to underestimate how central it is to photography and as a travel photographer.

I fill up all the time when I’m traveling with some interesting activity – visiting traditional markets, researching any fascinating ceremonies and religious festivals, and trying to my best photograph the true character of my subject.

My preference is to shoot in natural light, so the perfect timing will be just after sunrise 7-9am or before sunset around 3-4pm (all this depends on the time of year)

The equipment I use:

Nikon D800 E
Canon 5D Mark II
AF-S Nikkor 16-35 mm f/1.4G ED
AF-S Nikkor 85mm f/1.,8 G
Canon Zoom Lens EF 70-300mm f/1.4-5.6 L IS USM
Canon Zoom Lens EF 17-40mm f/1.4 IS USM
Canon Lens EF 85mm f/1.8
Canon Compact-Macro Lens EF 50 mm 1:2,5
Fujifilm x100 s
DJI Spark
Lee Filters
Tripod Vanguard ABH 230 K Alta 284 CT

I am very satisfied with both my Canon 5D Mark II and Nikon D800E cameras. I have been using them for all my Landscape and some of my Portraits images. They produce beautiful, sharp images with very low noise. I also sometimes use SinghRay and Lee Filters. I choose ND filters because I like to get nice details in not only the background but also for the foreground too.

As for the DJI Spark drone, I use it just when I am traveling to make some short scenery videos.

The Fujifilm X100S I use just for my snap shots.
