Imagine an AI-powered photo and video editing and creation platform, capable of doing almost anything you want and combining all the best features of your favorite editing apps from years gone by.

That, in a nutshell, is what insMind aims to be. With more than 1,000 effects and templates to choose from, it’s one of the most comprehensive AI editing platforms I’ve seen so far.

It’s also web-based, so no downloads or installs are needed, which is handy for editing or creating on any device, at any time.

For photographers like me, there’s lots to love about insMind. It’s not perfect, but as far as features, utility, and results are concerned, it’s quickly become one of my go-to solutions.

Read on through my in-depth insMind review to learn all you need to know about this ingenious AI editor.

What Does insMind Offer?

Before I get into the nitty-gritty and look at specific features, I’ll take a brief moment to introduce insMind and explain what it’s all about for those who haven’t yet heard much about it.

insMind accurately markets itself as an “all-in-one AI image and video creation platform” and “one-stop visual studio,” offering hundreds of features and templates for creating and editing images and videos with AI technology.

Boasting features such as AI background removal, image enhancement, photo-to-video generation, background generation, and image resizing, it lets you work with pictures and clips in myriad ways.

It isn’t marketed towards any audience in particular, but as a photographer, I’ve found it an immensely useful editing tool.

I think it would also work well for videographers, content creators, and even casual users just looking to play around with AI or upgrade some of their family photos.

insMind is built on powerful technology, with responsive and intelligent AI that generally produces impressive, accurate results. It’s remarkably intuitive, too, designed with beginners in mind, with a clean and tidy interface, but enough advanced features to satisfy more seasoned users.

It’s no surprise, then, that this is an increasingly popular platform, with over 100 million images and videos generated, and it has attracted the attention of some of the biggest brands in the world, including Google and Apple.

Feature Review

As touched on earlier, one of the big selling points of insMind is its enormous feature set.

It offers dozens of core functions, as well as literally more than a thousand AI photo effects and visual templates.

With a tool like this, the only limits are those imposed by your own imagination, and even though I’ve been using insMind for some time, I’m still uncovering new features and options regularly.

Given that there are so many different features, I couldn’t possibly list them all, but I will instead talk about the three main categories: AI image, AI video, and photo editing.

I’ll provide some examples and screenshots of helpful tools in each category, so you can get a feel for what insMind is capable of.

AI Image Generation and Editing Features

The AI image category of insMind features includes dozens of AI filter effects, image generation tools, and portrait effects, along with AI-powered image editing functions, such as:

  • AI image extender
  • AI background
  • AI image enhancer
  • AI magic eraser
  • AI replace
  • AI shadows
  • AI cartoon generator

Results may vary depending on which specific feature you use, and some are, understandably, more useful and relevant to the majority of users than others.

Personally, I’ve tended to gravitate towards editing tools, like the AI image enhancer, magic eraser, and image extender, which can all prove useful when fixing or fine-tuning some of my latest snaps.

Here’s a closer look at how a couple of those features work and the kinds of results you can expect.

AI Image Extender

As the name implies, the AI image extender tools serve to make images bigger.

This one is no exception. It uses AI to essentially imagine and fill in the gaps around your existing images, extending your backgrounds and stretching out the scenery in a natural and highly precise way.

Here’s an example, using a picture of a husky. First, I upload the image I want to extend to the AI image extender, and then I can select from a range of desired sizes or ratios for the final image I want to create.

Once I’m satisfied, I click “Generate” and use a credit to generate the extended image.

It takes less than a minute, most of the time, and as you can see below, the results are exactly what you would hope for.

In the extended image, the AI has naturally extended the background elements, like the couch and lamp at the back of the room. It has also rounded out the dog’s body, producing a final picture that looks just as natural as the first.

AI Background

The AI background feature uses AI to generate realistic, customizable backgrounds for your images.

In my experience, I’ve found it works best with portraits, especially when the subject is clear and ideally photographed against a blank background.

Here’s an example, using a female subject originally photographed against a plain pink backdrop.

After uploading my image, I can simply select from any of the AI background options in the menu on the side. Or I can click the “Customize” button and actually describe what sort of background I need using a simple text prompt.

As you can see, the result is excellent, with the AI successfully identifying the subject’s outline and adding the new background without any awkward visual issues.

AI Background Remover

insMind also does a terrific job of identifying subjects and removing backgrounds from almost any picture.

Again, I’ve found this works best with pictures that have clear differentiation between the subjects and the backgrounds, but it’s still generally good even with images where that isn’t the case.

This example shows a selection of products placed on a table. In a single click, I can highlight the products and delete the background.

I can then select from any of the color options to add a new background or use the AI to create a more detailed one.

AI Image Enhancer

insMind also offers image enhancement, so it can take old, blurry, grainy, or otherwise imperfect pictures and level them up to higher standards.

I’ve had mixed results with this tool, but it has worked more often than not.

Even if it doesn’t always result in flawless images, it consistently makes notable improvements to the original picture, as you can see in this example.

I start with a very grainy portrait of a young woman.

Then, I activate insMind’s image enhancer.

As you can see, the results aren’t flawless. We can still see some graininess in the woman’s hair and around the edges of the image, in particular, but her facial features are much sharper, and insMind does give you the ability to re-enhance the image several times, which can lead to additional improvements.

AI Video Generation and Editing Features

insMind also has many features based around video content, and can do everything from bringing images to life with AI to generating new videos from scratch, editing videos, or enhancing video clips.

Key features in this category include:

  • AI video generator
  • Image-to-video
  • Text-to-video
  • AI video enhancer
  • Start/end frame generator
  • AI video editor
  • AI smooth transitions

Here’s a closer look at some of those features in action.

Image to Video

Plenty of AI video platforms now offer the ability to upload a still image and bring it to life with artificial intelligence, and insMind is no different.

However, while some other platforms can be a little unreliable, sometimes producing results that look awkward and unnatural, I’ve found insMind to generally be very effective at creating clips that both match my prompt and meet or even exceed my expectations.

Here’s an example. First, I open up the image to the video generator and upload a picture of a bride holding a bouquet of flowers.

I type in a simple prompt, asking to see the bride smell the flowers and smile. Then, I click to generate the clip, and a few minutes later, insMind delivers.

The result is exactly what I asked for, showing the bride leaning in, smelling the flowers, before tilting her head back naturally with a beautiful smile across her face.

I’ve had similarly impressive results when working with all kinds of photos, including portraits, group pictures, and even scenes involving animals.

AI Video Models

One of the best things about insMind from a video editing and generation perspective is that it doesn’t just offer access to one or two video models, but a whole range of them, including Google Veo 3.1, Sora 2, Kling 2.6, Hailuo 2.3, Wan 2.5, and PixVerse AI.

Thanks to this, you can experiment with the various options at your disposal and find your favorites.

Plus, insMind regularly adds new models as soon as they become available, as well as updates to the latest versions.

The only downside to all of this is that, for new users, it can be a bit overwhelming to have so many options available, and you may waste some credits while experimenting with different tools.

insMind Photo Editor Features

Not all of insMind’s features involve advanced AI applications. This platform also covers the basic, essential processes involved in image editing – the kind of tasks that you probably spend a lot of time doing if you work with photos regularly, as I do.

Example features include:

  • Changing background colors
  • Adding text to images
  • Blurring backgrounds
  • Image resizing
  • Image compression
  • Format conversion
  • Adding watermarks
  • Adding borders
  • Adding filters
  • Adding overlays

All of these features work as well as one would expect of a good quality photo editing platform and are largely quick and reliable, too. So you can make whatever changes you need without much delay.

The platform also supports bulk edits for cases when you might want to rapidly edit a whole batch of photos.

Pricing

With such extensive functionality, you might assume that insMind comes with a hefty price tag attached. I’m glad to report that that is not the case.

In fact, you can actually start using insMind today for free, with a zero-cost plan offering access to a range of photo editing features, albeit with some AI functions inaccessible and watermarks applied to any images you make.

To get the full experience, however, you will have to pay, and there are several options. You can sign up for insMind Pro for one month at a time, arrange a recurring monthly subscription, or a yearly subscription, with the best value option at US$69.99 a year.

You can also purchase credits in various quantities, from 50 up to 10,000, with prices ranging from US$9.99 to US$349.99, respectively.

You can then spend credits each time you use the app, with some functions understandably costing more than others.

Who Is insMind For?

Both photography and videography enthusiasts will find much to like in insMind. It’s by far one of the most fully-featured AI photo and video editing tools I’ve worked with so far, boasting a far greater number of functions and templates than most of its rivals.

Of course, not all of those features will appeal to you, and there may even be dozens you never actually use. But that’s not necessarily a problem; it’s merely a sign of how this platform can appeal to such a broad audience of users from different fields and varying technical abilities.

Speaking of technical ability, I really enjoy how beginner-friendly insMind is. I’m not exactly a beginner to these kinds of tools, but I know people who are, and they definitely appreciate that insMind has such a tidy aesthetic and that even its more advanced features are relatively straightforward.

So, whether you’re a seasoned videographer, an intermediate photo editor, or someone brand new to using AI to enhance and adjust images, insMind can work for you.

It’s become one of my go-to options for tasks like extending images, erasing unwanted elements, or modifying backgrounds, and I can strongly recommend insMind to anyone with even a passing interest in AI photo and video editing.
