Julien Miscischia
Wedding | Last Updated: May 17, 2021
Hi. I’m Julien Miscischia, also known as Julien M, a documentary wedding photographer based in the French Alps in Annecy and Geneva. I’ve been shooting weddings for eight years, but I also shoot lifestyle, family and pregnancy.
I love to shoot people, capturing moments and making incredible souvenirs. I like spending time with people and trying to give them a beautiful experience. That’s why I’m a photographer.
I’m not a huge fan of posing people because I want to document the spontaneity of the moment. I want the photos to reflect the joy, smiles, tears and everything that happens during a wedding. I like to say that my photography is natural, simple and spontaneous.
I started using Canon gear. A beautiful Canon EOS 5D Mark II with a Canon EF 50mm f/1.4. The results were nice and it allowed me to start my business. But the more weddings I shot, the more the autofocus was lacking precision. I had too many bad shots.
So I decided to go with the yellow brand. I sold all my Canon gear and went to a new Nikon D810 and a Nikon D750. Then I add some lenses like the Nikon 58mm f/1.4G or the Nikon 35mm f/1.4G. I worked for five years with this setup and I loved it.
But two years ago, Sony decided to kill the market and made the Sony A7 III. So I gave it a chance… bad luck for me, the experience was insane! I completely switched to Sony.
This year, I realised that gear doesn’t matter when you’ve got the experience. While I was changing my branding, I started to think 360° and try to find a brand that will fit into my core values. Like I said before, the experience is the most important thing in my photography, so the gear I use needs to reflect this. That’s how Fujifilm entered in my life.
This was not the first time that I used a Fujifilm camera. I had a Fujifilm X100T in the past. It was the best compact camera I ever had even if the battery life was atrocious.
I now shoot with a Fujifilm X100V (review) and Fujifilm X-T4. I have the discretion, the speed and the style! I love how compact the X100V is. It also comes with incredible features and great battery life. These two cameras are silent, and I love it. I will add another Fujifilm X-T4 or Fujifilm X-T3 in a near future.
Now the lenses. I have the Fujifilm 23mm f/1.4 that is, for the moment, a backup (it will always be on my next XT camera for sure). The Fujifilm 56mm f/1.2 is mounted on my X-T4, and I can’t have enough words to describe how good this lens is. A must-have. The Fujifilm 18-55mm f/2.8-4 (really good kit lens) is also in my bag in case I need wider than the 23mm on my X100.
I sometimes use a DJI Mavic Pro with Polar Pro ND/PL filters for big group shots. My Samsung Note 9 serves as a monitor for my drone remote. I have spare batteries for my cameras and my drone.
For the lighting part, I use the Godox system. I love how everything works together. I carry a Godox AD200, a Godox V860II-F and a little Godox V350-F. I transformed my V860II into a V1 with the Godox S-R1 kit (a really useful magnetic kit). When I need off-camera operations, I use the Godox Xpro FGodox Xpro F to trigger everything.
I use a Lowepro AW 450 to carry everything and a brown leather Kata multi-camera strap (no longer exist).
During the wedding, I use a Fujifilm Instax Share SP-3 and an Instax Square pack of prints. This little printer is a gem and my clients love it!
I always have my Sandisk Extreme Pro 64G in an Ares Foto card pouch. I take an external 24000mAh battery if I need extra power.
Business cards and a print of my family is, of course, always with me.
