My name is Martin Duerr and I’m based near Munich, Germany. I grew up there with a father that was the Chief of Development of AGFA cameras in Munich, so cameras have always been around. I didn’t start as a photographer, I studied graphic design and then worked some years in advertising agencies, but wanted to be free so worked as a freelancer.
Accidentally I entered the world of computer graphics and worked as an Illustrator, Compositor and 3D Artist for several years. Again, through lucky serendipity I met American photographer Clint Clemens in 2008, he is the one who gave me the push in the right direction.
January 2014 I started seriously with portrait photography. My main focus is on people, portraits, fashion and sensual photography. Together with my wife, we run a photo workshop school, holding lots of workshops and masterclasses in Germany and countries like Morocco, Italy and Spain.
Teaching photography and artwork/design is my passion, next to traveling around the world. I also do a lot of lectures on photo events and enjoy meeting people that are fascinated by photography like I am.
I started with a Nikon D90, switched over to a D7000
and then a Nikon D800
. In late 2017 I was looking for an alternate camera system (mirrorless system) and found it in form of a Lumix G9
. I did my first shootings with that camera and it was exactly what I’ve been looking for.
A few months later I had contact with Panasonic, and in September 2018 I was announced officially as a Lumix Ambassador. Like the cameras and the team at Panasonic, their passion for cameras is amazing.
Next to my G9, I’m using a GX9
and of course the brand new Lumix S1
and S1R
.
For my G9/GX9
I have a bunch of lenses that I like most: the Leica Nocticron 42.5mm f/1.2
, the 25mm f/1.4
, the 12-35mm f/2.8
and the 50-200mm f/2.8-4.0 zoom.
For my S1/S1R
I’m using all 3 lenses which are available at the moment: The 24-105mm f/4 zoom lens which is amazing, the boke master 50mm f/1.4
and the 70-200mm f/4
zoom.
As I’m often on location, I’m in need of a powerful mobile flash which I found in the Godox AD200. Together with several add-ons and deformers, I can do everything I need or want to do, especially on foreign workshop locations.
For making ofs I’m using a DJI Osmo Pocket, which is small and fits into every pocket. If I am travelling light, I’m using an iPad Pro
for quick selection and editing, otherwise I’m using a super fast GIGABYTE AERO laptop
at home together with a 4K monitor.
