Cross-device editing just got easier with Luminar’s latest update.
The new Luminar Ecosystem lets you start editing on your phone and pick up right where you left off on your computer once you get home or arrive at the studio.
This is a game-changer for many creators who prefer to do mobile photography. Also, for those times when you stumble upon a special moment or place without your camera handy, or for when you choose to travel light.
Now you can take your photos without a professional camera and still have them look professionally shot, because you can easily use Luminar Mobile and Luminar Neo in tandem to edit them to perfection.
If you want to know how this works or how to get cross-device editing with your existing Luminar license, keep reading!
What is the Luminar Ecosystem?
The Luminar Ecosystem is a “private space” that lets you synchronize your mobile edits in real time so you can open them on a desktop and pick up where you left off.
It’s called a private space to differentiate it from the public spaces, which refers to Luminar’s web galleries called Spaces. These can be shared with anyone via a link.
But back to the Ecosystem. Suppose you take a photograph with Luminar Mobile’s camera or your phone’s camera app and start editing it in Luminar Mobile. In that case, it will automatically sync via a cloud service with your Luminar Neo on desktop.
It’s important to note that this isn’t cloud storage. Instead, it’s meant to save you time and effort as you don’t have to connect your phone to your computer or use any external cloud service to transfer your photos between devices.
How Does the Luminar Ecosystem Work?
Please consider that, at least for now, the cross-device editing works only from Luminar Mobile to Neo on desktop – not the other way around. Let’s see how to use it.
Luminar Mobile

Everything starts on your mobile phone. Make sure you have the latest version of Luminar Mobile and that you’re logged in with the same account on both your phone and computer.
Launch the Luminar Mobile app – you’ll notice that it’ll open on the Luminar Space. The first time you use it, you won’t have any pictures there, only the Skylum intro and a big plus sign at the bottom.
Tap on the plus sign and choose to take a photo or upload one from the File Manager or the Photo Gallery.
Once you’ve taken or imported a photo, it will open inside the app, where you can make all sorts of edits, both manual and AI-powered.
You can read our dedicated article if you need more information about the Luminar Mobile app.
After this first use, every time you launch the Luminar app, you’ll find all the pictures you’ve edited in it. However, if you make any further edits on your desktop using Luminar Neo, they won’t be reflected in the app.
Luminar Neo
Since the release of the cross-editing feature, a “Luminar Mobile” category now appears in the Luminar Neo Catalog.
You’ll find it on the left-hand panel, between “Sample Images” and “Single Image Edits”.

If you haven’t used Luminar Mobile yet, you won’t find anything there except for an explanation of what it is and a QR code to download the app.
However, after you add a picture to your phone, you’ll find it here, ready to import.
Right now, the file is in a cloud service; click “Import 1 Photo” to bring it into Luminar Neo. To import more than one, select them, and you’ll see the number in the Import command change.

Now you’ll find your photo in the “Space Imports” folder.
If you open the image in the Edit workspace and go to Edits, you’ll find everything you’ve done on the picture already. This means you can undo or adjust any edits you already made on your phone if necessary.

You can then continue editing the file in Luminar Neo as usual.
Remember that nothing you do in Neo will sync with the file on your phone. However, if you make any edits on your phone, you’ll find the new version of the photo ready to be imported into the “Luminar Mobile” category.
The file that’s already imported into “Space Imports” won’t reflect the mobile edits.
How Do I Get the Luminar Ecosystem? – Plans & Pricing
If you’re new to Luminar, you can purchase a Cross-device Perpetual license or a Max Perpetual license. Both choices give you access to Luminar Neo desktop, Luminar mobile, and the Luminar Ecosystem.
I personally recommend you get the Max Perpetual license because, for only $20 more, it also gives you access to the Creative Library.
If you’ve already purchased one of these two licenses and the purchase was after June 1st, 2025, then you’ll get access to the Luminar Ecosystem as soon as you receive the fall update. You won’t have to pay any extra fees.
However, if you purchased the Neo license before June 1st, you’ll need to buy an Ecosystem Pass. This will give you a license for Luminar mobile, the Luminar Ecosystem, and the fall 2025 updates on Neo desktop.
Whichever is your case, you can benefit from the current Black Friday sale. New users will receive a discount of up to 77% and the Ecosystem Pass is discounted by 50%. Legacy owners can get up to an 82% discount when purchasing a Cross-device Perpetual or a Max Perpetual license.
For those of you reading this article after the Black Friday sale, the regular prices are still very affordable compared to competitors and offer great value for money.
Plus, Skylum runs multiple sales throughout the year, so check out the official website for the current prices and offers.
