Even complete beginners without any Photoshop skills or editing experience can jump onto a user-friendly platform like Clipdrop and create amazing visuals in minutes with the aid of AI.

With that said, you may still need a little helping hand getting started, especially with certain features that involve more than simply clicking a single button and letting the AI do all the hard work for you.

That’s where this guide comes in. Below, I’ll walk you through three of the most popular features of Clipdrop, including the Relight and Cleanup features, with illustrated, step-by-step tutorials that you can follow to master these features.

I’ll also explore some of the other features included with Clipdrop, so you can learn a little more about what this AI editing tool is all about, and take a look at its pricing and overall usefulness.

What Is Clipdrop?

Clipdrop is an AI visual generation and editing platform from the same team behind the hugely popular Jasper AI marketing tool.

It offers a curated collection of AI tools you can use when working with images, turning tasks that would take hours of work in a conventional editor into simple one-click solutions.

With Clipdrop, for example, you can remove backgrounds from your images and isolate your subjects in an instant.

It’s also good for cleaning away clutter from images or upscaling small images into larger versions without any noise or loss of quality.

Clipdrop is ideal for content creators, e-commerce sellers, and photographers who want to make quick, AI-assisted edits. It can also be used by individuals who want to tidy up or enhance personal photos.

The best part is that most of these features are free, though the free plan has a few limitations, which I’ll get into later in the Pricing section.

3 Essential Clipdrop Features (Step-by-Step Guide)

Clipdrop offers close to a dozen different tools, at the moment, and more may be added in the future.

I won’t go into detail on every single one, as many work in very similar ways. I will, however, look closely at three key features: Remove Background, Relight, and Cleanup.

These are three of the go-to tools on the Clipdrop platform, used by many people daily to help clean up and improve the photos they take.

If you’re interested in giving any of these features a try, the following sections will show you exactly how they work.

1. Remove Background

One of the best things about Clipdrop is that most of its features operate on a simple three-step process:

1. Upload your picture(s).
2. Launch the tool.
3. Download the results.

The Remove Background feature is a great example of this, and in a matter of seconds, you can accurately erase the background from any image.

Here’s how it works.

First, select the Remove Background option from the Clipdrop main menu, which leads you to the screen above.

You can either click on the blue box to choose which image(s) to upload, or drag and drop your picture(s) directly onto the tab.

Note that Remove Background – and several other Clipdrop tools – support bulk processing, so you can upload up to 10 images at a time.

Once you’ve added all the images you want to work with, click the “Remove background” button to proceed.

You may need to log into your account at this stage, if you haven’t already, and pass a captcha test.

Then, the AI will simply do the hard part for you, identifying and isolating your subject while clearing away the background of your image.

2. Relight

The Relight feature is one of the more advanced tools in Clipdrop’s arsenal, and one of the most impressive free AI photo editing features I’ve worked with to date.

Before I show you how it works, here’s what it does: as the name implies, Relight is all about lighting. It lets you adjust the lighting of your images by adding one or more AI lights to the picture.

You can drag these lights around, adjust their tone and intensity, and multiply them to quite literally highlight any aspect of your image.

Here’s how to use it.

From the Clipdrop main menu, click on the Relight feature, then click the box to upload your image.

Alternatively, you can drag and drop a file onto the window.

For this tutorial, I’ll use an image of a bride and her wedding bouquet.

Once my image has been loaded into Clipdrop, the platform presents me with a variety of buttons and options.

Using the Presets, I can scroll through and select from a series of preset lighting effects, all of which produce very different results.

The way each preset works is by adding one or more AI lights to the image, which appear as little circles. This one, for example, uses two lights, one at the base of the image and one just beside the bride’s face.

Once you’ve found a preset you like, you can click and drag the circles around, as if they were floating light bulbs. As you move them, the lighting changes accordingly.

Use the buttons at the bottom, marked “Light 1” and “Light 2,” to change the characteristics of each of these two lights.

You can make them more powerful, adjust their distance to make them seem closer to or further away from the subject, and change their color and tone, too.

As shown in the above screenshot, you can also click the “+ Light” button to add a third or fourth light to the image.

Again, you can move this around and change its parameters. From there, it’s simply a matter of moving and adjusting lights to get the end result you want, before downloading it.

The key with this tool is experimentation. Try adjusting the intensity and tone of each light to see how it affects your final image, and don’t be afraid to add or delete lights, as needed.

If you have photography experience, think of how physical lights work in a photo studio environment, and move your AI lights accordingly to get the exact mood you’re going for.

3. Cleanup

We all take flawed photos from time to time, with bits of clutter or unwanted items taking attention away from our subjects or interfering with the overall aesthetic.

Clipdrop’s Cleanup feature aims to clean away clutter, objects, people, or even bits of text from your pictures.

To start using it, simply find and select “Cleanup” from the Clipdrop main menu.

Next, either click the blue box to select a picture or drag and drop it directly onto the editing window.

In this example, I’ll use a picture of an office desk, with a bit of clutter on it.

Let’s say I want to get rid of the pen from the desk. To do this, I use Clipdrop’s helpful brush tool to select the pen.

I can adjust the brush size using the slider on the right side, then click and drag over the pen to “paint” it.

With the pen fully selected, all that’s left to do is click the “Clean” button.

Seconds later, the pen has vanished.

I can repeat this process with other items, too, like the mug, plant, and so on. The Cleanup tool will remove each one, filling in the space in a way that preserves the aesthetic of the original picture.

Other Features Included With Clipdrop

As mentioned earlier, the three features listed above are just a small part of the overall Clipdrop experience.

Replace Background

The Replace Background feature builds on the Remove Background feature by using AI to generate a brand-new custom background for your pictures.

It’s generally quite quick and responds well, even to complicated prompts, producing backgrounds that are vivid, detailed, and attractive.

The only downside is that this is one of the few Clipdrop features that isn’t available for free – you have to sign up for the Pro plan to access it.

Resizer

The Clipdrop Universal Resizer is a helpful tool for content creators and social media enthusiasts. It lets you quickly resize your pictures into the right dimensions for social sites like Instagram and Facebook.

This isn’t a game-changing tool, but it’s a helpful option to bookmark if you post a lot of pictures to your social accounts and get tired of having to crop and adjust them every time.

Uncrop

The Uncrop tool uses generative AI to expand your photos into larger versions.

You could upload a picture of a man standing in a field, for example, and the AI will expand it by generating new content for the sides, top, and bottom. This creates a bigger, broader image that feels perfectly aligned with the original.

Image Upscaler

The Image Upscaler is ideal if you have an image that’s low-resolution or a little grainy, with bits of noise and other visual issues detracting from the overall image.

I’ve worked with a lot of AI editing tools, and I’ve often had to pay for the privilege of doing so. Sometimes, platforms like this can charge upwards of $20 per month just to access some relatively simple AI editing tools.

Fortunately, Clipdrop isn’t like that. It offers one of the best free plans I’ve seen in some time. Free users get full access to most features, like Relight, Text Remover, and Cleanup, though certain other features, such as Uncrop and Replace Background, aren’t available.

There are resolution restrictions on the free plan, too, so if you want unrestricted access and higher resolutions, you need to pay the US$15 per month for a Pro account.

Pro users also get to use each feature up to 1,000 times every 24 hours, whereas free users have between 20 and 50 uses per day.

Who Is Clipdrop For?

Clipdrop is best suited to beginners and users who want fast, automated image edits without complex software.

It’s ideal for:

• Content creators who need quick background removal or lighting adjustments
• E-commerce sellers preparing product images
• Social media marketers needing clean visuals
• Casual photographers enhancing portraits or tidying up distractions
• Everyday users looking to improve personal photos

It isn’t an advanced AI photo editor, nor does it have the hundreds of features that certain other platforms have.

As such, it’s not going to become your go-to tool for every kind of photo editing, or a platform you can turn to when you want to make very high-level edits and adjustments.
