Hi! My name is Tracy Botica. I’m from a small town in New South Wales called Henty (Australia).
I am married and have two wonderful boys. Around 7 years ago I completed an online diploma of professional photography through The Photography Institute and my journey began from there.
I have always been an observer of people and interested in telling stories. Photography was the right fit for me. I love that each person may view an image differently and take something different from it. My children have been the main subjects of my portraiture for the last 5 years, although I have a new project in mind for next year!
I have a pretty small kit compared to a lot of photographers and must admit I am not very technically minded. I bought my camera and lenses second hand on eBay to keep costs down.
I do believe great images can be captured on just about any camera and the equipment we use is just a tool to help us reach the end result. However, I think you need to find the equipment that best suits your needs.
I shoot with the Nikon D810. I have had this camera for a long time now and although I have considered the move to mirrorless due to size and weight, I just cannot give this camera up. It’s so robust and it just keeps going and going. I know it well and I love having the 36 megapixels to play with.
The lens that hardly ever leaves my camera is the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art. I love the focal length as it allows me to get in close to my subjects and I find it’s great for shooting indoors too. It is such a sharp lens even at 1.4 and I really couldn’t rave about it enough!
The other lens in my kit is the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 Art. I have found this lens to be nice and sharp and it’s a great focal length for close up portraits or when shooting from further away. It is quite heavy though if shooting for long periods. I love the quality you get from prime lenses and hope to add a few more to my kit in future years!
